Description:
Coconut flour is a gluten-free and grain-free flour that is rich in dietary fiber and MCTs, which help stabilize blood sugar, support your digestion, heart health and immune system. It may also boost weight loss and fight some infections.
The flour has a mild coconut taste but a texture similar to that of wheat or other grain flours. However, coconut flour is a gluten free flour thus can safely be used by coeliacs or those following a gluten free diet. Over and above gluten, coconut is also a non grain flour, so is also suitable for those following grain free diets – eg Paleo diet.
Since coconut flour has a high fibre content of about 45% and also low carb, this makes it very suitable for Keto and low carb diets.
How to Use:
- Add coconut flour to smoothies and shakes for a boost of fiber and protein
- Use as a thickener for sauces and gravies
- Use as a substitute for up to 20% of the wheat flour in paleo, grain and gluten-free baking. It can be used to make cakes, cookies, bread, and muffins. Many gluten-free recipes use it as a base.
Note:
* Coconut flour is very dense. It absorbs a lot of liquids. So for each portion of coconut flour you use, you will need to add equal amounts of liquid (water, coconut oil/butter, coconut milk, raw milk etc). For example, if you use 1/4 cup coconut flour, you will need to add 1/4 cup of liquids or a combination of liquids. *
